Pondicherry is described as tranquil, modern, and attractive, yet none of these descriptors do it credit. The town is tranquil and rich in culture and history. It is a union territory that was previously held by Dutch, French, and British rulers. It is also known as 'Puducherry.' However, it retains leanings toward French culture and popular influences - there is even a big French neighbourhood here, which is Pondicherry's most popular tourist destination.

Auroville Beach

Beach is approximately 12 kms from Pondicherry and is located on the right side of East Coast Road.

Promenade Beach

Apart from its scenic beauty, this makes it one of the hippest tourist destinations in Pondicherry.

Pondicherry is a popular tourist destination all year. The weather is quite consistent throughout the year and the seasons are predictable.

November - February: The winters in Pondicherry are just as hot as the summers, although the sunshine isn't quite as harsh. This might be the most compelling reason to visit Pondicherry at this time of year. The months of November through February are the city's winter months, and they are bitterly cold. However, unlike the monsoon season, no extreme weather events such as hailstorms or snow are ever experienced.

April - June: In May, the temperature in Pondicherry may reach 400 degrees Celsius. Pondicherry, like the rest of Tamil Nadu, has extremely hot summers. Summer is the best season to visit this city if you like less crowds and more room to explore the tourist attractions. Just remember to drink plenty of water and wear sunscreen and a hat before venturing out.

June - August: Pondicherry is very lovely during the monsoon season. You'll discover vacant roads surrounded by lush foliage, a scene that will calm even the most tormented spirit! Keep an eye out for puddles, but don't be anxious about flooding or landslides in Pondicherry. The monsoon season lasts from June through August.

How to reach?

By Air

Lawspet, an Assembly Constituency in Pondicherry's union territory, is home to Pondicherry Airport. SpiceJet Airlines has direct flights from Hyderabad and Bengaluru.

By Train

Pondicherry has train connections to Chennai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Mumbai, as well as Kanyakumari, Hyderabad, Nagpur, Bhubaneswar, Bengaluru, Visakhapatnam, and Mangalore. Furthermore, Villupuram Junction, located 39 kilometres away, is connected to numerous other Indian cities.

By Bus

The East Coast Road connects Pondicherry to Chennai through Mahabalipuram. There are regular bus connections from Chennai to various major destinations. The Pondicherry Road Transport Corporation operates buses within the city as well as Volvo buses to Chennai and other destinations.
